Game modes

Eternal ships with ready-made game modes: TTT, Bedwars, SkyWars, EnderGames, GunGame, SkyPvP and CityBuild. You create a task for it with one click, set up the maps on a setup server and then go live. In round-based modes (TTT, Bedwars, SkyWars, EnderGames) every service then plays exactly one round on a fresh copy, and the cloud starts a new one after every round. Always-on modes (SkyPvP, GunGame) run without rounds; you only set how many servers run. CityBuild keeps its worlds: there the setup server itself goes live.

Every game mode has a Statistics tab in the dashboard: the ranking of all players (network-wide), sortable by every statistic, with search and reset.

You find everything in the dashboard under Cloud → Spielmodi ("Game modes"). The game logic lives in the plugin; title, description, image and price come from the Eternal catalog.

Note

Game modes need the Eternal Cloud. Every game mode is licensed individually (unit gm:<id>, e.g. gm:ttt), or it is part of a bundle. Without a license you see the game mode in the catalog but cannot create a task.

Workflow

StepWhereWhat happens
1. Create a taskCloud → Spielmodi ("Game modes") → Task erstellen ("Create task")Name, server version, RAM. Eternal creates the template gamemode/<Task> and a static task with one setup server.
2. Choose a map editorTask → Karten ("Maps")FastAsyncWorldEdit or WorldEdit from the plugin library. It is put into the template automatically and the setup server restarts.
3. Create mapsTask → Karten ("Maps")Upload a schematic (it gets pasted) or leer anlegen ("create empty") and build in-game. Every map is a world of its own (gm_<name>).
4. Set pointson the setup server/gsetup tp <Karte>, then /gsetup marker <Typ> for every point the game mode needs.
5. ConfigureTask → Einstellungen ("Settings"), Rechte-Pakete ("Permission packages")All values of the game mode, packages for players and groups.
6. Finish setupTask → Übersicht ("Overview")The setup server saves and stops. The maps move into the template, the editor is removed and the task becomes dynamic.

The overview always shows what is still missing, e.g. „Testarena: Spawn – mindestens 4 (2)“ ("Testarena: Spawn – at least 4 (2)"). Setup abschließen ("Finish setup") only works once nothing is left open.

Maps and schematics

  • Formats: .schem (Sponge, 1.13+) and .schematic (MCEdit), at most 32 MB. On 1.8–1.12, WorldEdit can only handle .schematic.
  • Map editor: Pasting is done with FastAsyncWorldEdit or WorldEdit, depending on what you choose. If neither of them is in the plugin library, the upload is locked and the dashboard shows where to get it: Cloud → Plugins → Katalog (Modrinth) ("Catalog"). Building in-game still works.
  • Where: The map is pasted centred on x/z 0, with the ground at height 64. Empty maps get a small platform below the spawn.
  • Pasting again: This replaces the world; the markers stay. So it pays off to set markers only once the map is finished.
  • Map types: Every game mode defines which types exist (TTT: Arena and Wartelobby, "waiting lobby") and how many of them must be active at least. Individual maps can be disabled without deleting them.

Setting markers (/gsetup)

CommandEffect
/gsetup mapsMaps of the task with their status
/gsetup tp <Karte>to the map (<Karte> = map; loads the world)
/gsetup marker <Typ>sets a marker (<Typ> = type). Points (spawn, spectator …) are placed where you stand, including your viewing direction. Buttons and lamps are placed on the block you are looking at (at most 6 blocks away).
/gsetup unmarkremoves the nearest marker (≤ 3 blocks)
/gsetup markersMarkers of this map, required vs. actual
/gsetup checkwhat is still missing for „Setup abschließen“ ("Finish setup")

Markers are shown as particles on the setup server. Permission: eternal.gamemode.setup or the game mode's admin permission (TTT: eternal.ttt.admin). Anyone with the permission is put into creative mode on joining.

Live

  • One round per service: Every round runs on a fresh copy of the template, so maps are never destroyed permanently. After the round all players go back to the lobby (the proxy's fallback) and the server shuts down.
  • Waiting lobbies: The cloud keeps this many services ready (Übersicht ("Overview") → Wartende Lobbys, "Waiting lobbies"). When one goes into the round, a new one starts automatically.
  • Signs and NPCs: A service in the round reports itself as ingame, and signs and NPCs show that. „Lobby“, „Schutzzeit · Karte“ ("Grace period · map") and „Runde · Karte“ ("Round · map") appear as extra text.
  • Changing settings: New values apply from the next round on.
  • Changing maps: Setup wieder öffnen ("Reopen setup") stops the round servers. The setup server then runs again with its old folder, so maps and markers are still there. Afterwards, Setup abschließen ("Finish setup") again.

Permission packages

Every game mode ships with ready-made packages (TTT: Premium, YouTuber, Team). A package is a permission group in Eternal Perms named <spielmodus>-<paket> (game mode–package), e.g. ttt-premium. The group is created as soon as you assign the package for the first time.

  • To players: temporary (days) or permanent.
  • To groups: An existing group inherits the package. That way, e.g., everyone in VIP gets TTT Premium.
  • Contents: Add or remove permissions; Standard ("Default") resets the contents.

Anyone with eternal.web.gamemodes.packages may assign packages.

Common pitfalls

  • „Schematic-Upload gesperrt“ ("Schematic upload locked"): Neither FAWE nor WorldEdit is in the plugin library. Download it under Cloud → Plugins → Katalog ("Catalog") and then choose it under Karten ("Maps").
  • Map stays on „wird eingefügt …“ ("being pasted …"): The setup server is not running, or the editor is not loaded yet. The setup server restarts once after the editor is chosen. The log shows Setup: Karte … eingefügt or an error.
  • „Schau auf den Block“ ("Look at the block"): Button and lamp markers need the block in your crosshair, at most 6 blocks away.
  • Finish setup does not work: The overview lists what is missing. If a world is missing, the map was never on the setup server (go there once with /gsetup tp).
  • No game mode in the catalog: The game mode is hidden in the catalog and not licensed, or the plugin version does not know it yet.
